Course Description
Photography
2 and Studio are designed to build on the skills of traditional photography
introduced in Photography 1. Students will understand the basics of the
Macintosh platform and be introduced to basic tools and techniques in Adobe
Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom for editing digital photographs, image
cataloging, processing to print, and web gallery layout. Students will also compare and contrast the
procedures and visual effects achieved in digital vs. traditional
photography. Students will further
develop higher order aesthetic choices, tapping more consciously into their
developing creativity.
*Photographs not edited through Adobe Photoshop/Lightroom may not be submitted for a grade.
Due to the lab-based nature of this course, it is essential that assignments are shot by the due date. Failure to come to class with materials such as this can result in a series of late projects making it difficult to keep up with assignments.

Evaluation and Grading Procedures
Grading will be based upon quality of work with components weighted as follows:
20% Daily Work (worksheets, homework, quizzes, participation, on-task)
60% Projects (class projects)
20% Final exam (written final/portfolio)
At the end of the course, letter grades are earned as defined:
A Excellent. Denotes work that is consistently at the highest level of achievement.
B Denotes work that consistently meets the high level of standards for academic performance.
C Denotes work that meets the average level of standards for academic performance.
D The lowest passing grade. Denotes work that does not meet in all respects for academic performance.
F Failure. Denotes work that fails to meet standards for academic performance in a course.
Attendance, Lateness & Make-Up Work
For excused absences, extended time will be given for the number of days that the absence was excused. However, the student will have to make up the work on their own time if the class moves on to the next project for their daily work.
For other absences, late work will be accepted with a deduction of the grade. Cut off dates will be given for late work by the teacher, after which time no credit is given.
For students who are truant, no credit for missed work is given. For students who are suspended, missed work can be made up according to school policy.
Theft & Plagiarism
Any student submitting other student’s work or copying will receive a zero for that assignment as well as follow the school policy for academic dishonesty.
Pictures that we NEVER want to see in school are:
-nudity
-smoking of anything
- weapons of any kind
-gang tattoos, tagging
-drugs or drug references
-inappropriate hand gestures
-liquor /beer bottles/cans, full or empty, labels on or off

- recognize the relationship between digital and silver halide image,
- understand how to use auto, semi-auto & manual modes on their camera.
- understand lighting, white balance & histograms.
- demonstrate the ability to import images using scanners and digital cameras,
- understand and apply Photoshop and Lightroom tools to digitally enhance photographs.
- discuss his/her work and that of others in a mature and sensitive manner using photography terms.
- print proofs, editions independently and explore alternative printing processes,
- use PhotoShop and Lightroom Help & tutorials to troubleshoot & expand skills.
- understand the concepts and repercussions of theft and plagiarism.

- Cameras
- 35mm film-camera
- digital camera (at least 8.0 megapixels)
- (3) #2 pencils for note-taking
- 1.5”- 3 ring binder for organizing handouts, worksheets, assignments, notes, projects
- 8-tab index dividers
- at least 4G USB Flash Drive for storing digital files
